Craggy Gardens trail

Today I hiked the Craggy Gardens Trail and it was beautiful!! Although it was a short trail, and definitely an easy hike, it is one that I would like see again during the summer so that i can witness all of the rhododendrons in bloom. I know that there are some side trails, but I didn’t do my homework before I went ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Had I been by myself I would’ve wandered along a side trail that lead to the Mountains to Sea trail, however I was with my parents who weren’t as comfortable with the idea. There was also a path that lead to the Douglas Falls Trail, which is a longer, more strenuous hike. I’m saving that one for another day!

The views were stunning, and the parking lot was extremely easy to find, as was the trailhead, which I can’t say about every hike. Today was an unusually busy day for the trail, as it was Mother’s Day. The trail is easy, which makes it a popular choice for families with small kids, and there are several areas to sit along the way. At the end of the trail, there is a picnic area, with restrooms. This is an out and back trail, and maybe reaches a distance of about two miles. We parked at the visitors center, which is about 18 miles past the Folk Art Center going North on the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you’ve got the time, I suggest stopping by in the visitors center, they’ve got some fun things in there!

It was definitely a fun day with my parents, my dog was a big of a nightmare though. Harley is a rescue dog, he is capable of being really friendly with other dogs, but the introduction has to be right, and on a narrow trail, that just doesn’t happen. I’m hoping that one day it won’t be such an issue for him, it can be really frustrating at times, but he’s come a long way since I first got him. I used to struggle just to walk him, now he’s pretty good on the leash, unless we meet another dog. He’s a very smart dog, and extremely obstinate, he works very hard to get his way!! He might be just a bit spoiled ๐Ÿ™‚
