I don’t really believe in resolutions to be honest, they’re unrealistic sights that we set because somebody said we should. So this year I’ve come up with a list of hiking and backpacking goals for myself.
1. Make time to go backpacking at least once a month (more if possible)
2. Learn 4 new knots
3. Learn how to use a Magnesium Fire Starter
4. Go on my first solo backpacking trip
5. Start the South Beyond 6000 Challenge (completing the challenge in a year seems unrealistic… so maybe half of the summits?)
6. Learn some new campfire recipes
7. Learn more survival techniques (it never hurts to be prepared, right?)
8. Drink more water (not necessarily hiking related, but still important!)
What are your outdoor goals for 2015? Do you have any suggestions for me?

Me too! I definitely started to slack off towards the end of the year so I’ve got to keep pushing myself.

I think we are all guilty of slacking off at the end of the year. It’s so hard not to when holidays come around. I always end up straying bad, I get lazy and eat too much haha. New Year is always good though, fresh start to reset your goals!

Exactly! And I could use the refresher and the motivation when the temperatures drop like this in the winter. Although I’m looking forward to finding some frozen waterfalls!

Thanks!! I’m excited for it! I’m not sure where I’m going to go just yet, but I’m going to wait until the temperatures aren’t so cold! I’ve really enjoyed my solo hikes so I imagine a backpacking trip would be amazing. Happy Trails!

I’m hoping to do some backpacking around Mount Rainer in WA this summer 🙂 Other than that, I want to do some more local hikes on the Florida Trail. Unfortunately, a lot of the hikes around here are very flat and very sandy, but I want to find a few hikes that I truly enjoy.
Drinking more water is always a good goal 🙂 And the site trailcooking.com has a bunch of great ideas for recipes. I used a few of them this summer in AK! Happy New Year!

I would give anything to be able to do some hikes through Washington! That’s such a beautiful area. Well honestly I’d love to hike the majority of the West Coast. I’ve read a bit about the Florida Trail too! I’d love to do parts of that one day. Sounds like you’ve got some great hiking goals for the year!
Thanks for the website suggestion! It was great!! 🙂 Happy New Year!
