I realized, with a bit of shock, that I’ve become accustomed to the beauty of living in a mountain town. I drive to work surrounded by mountains, the sunrise offering a faint coloring over the sky and tinting the mountains a soft orange or purple. I am rewarded on my way home with similar views in the opposite direction. No matter which way I look, I am surrounded and comforted by the mountains looming in the distance.
When I first moved here I found myself pausing on a daily basis to taking in and appreciated the beauty that lay before me. Don’t get me wrong, I still appreciate the beauty regularly, but not as much as I used to. I guess if you see something everyday you end up a little desensitized to it.
So today I’m making sure that I do take a moment. I’m going to look out of my office window in awe of the mountains that fill the view, their peaks softly disappearing behind wispy clouds that swirl downward, threatening to envelop us in a dense fog.
I will do my best to be awestruck every day by the beauty that surrounds me. I am so lucky to live in such a beautiful place, to have luxury of being surrounded by mountains every day, and to have such easy access to trails. It’s all too easy to forget just how lucky I am.
